Protect the essence of your home by having your carpets cleaned regularly

If you want to add a little warmth and homeliness into your house, the easiest and best thing to do is just add a carpet or a rug to the room. Just doing this can completely change the look and atmosphere of your room.

Although this is one of the simplest ways to achieve a completely new look, there are things you have to take into consideration when installing a carpet. A common complaint when it comes to carpets is a dust allergy. Carpets do not create dust allergies, people already have them, it’s just that the particles get trapped into the carpet, and if not cleaned appropriately, this can aggravate existing allergies.

This annoyance can be easily rectified and should never be a reason to rid your home of warm carpets. There is a simple solution to ridding the dust and other allergens from your carpets, which is to just clean your carpets and rugs on a frequent basis. This is something which anybody can keep on top of, however, it is recommended by industry experts that you have your carpets by a professional once or twice a year.

It is important that you consider a carpet cleaning company’s experience and hiring as anybody can set up a cleaning company, and when staff have little experience, they are no better at cleaning carpets than you. Breeze Carpet Cleaners have over 19 years experience in the industry and only hire experienced and qualified cleaning agents to carry out a professional clean.

Carpets and rugs can be the essence of your home, but it is extremely important that they are cleaned appropriately, so ensure that you have dust and allergens removed from your carpets by having a professional clean every 6 months.

How to remove vomit stains from your carpet

Any pet owner will be well aware of the struggles you go through to keep your carpet clean, whether it is pet dander, fur, fleas, dirt or vomit, there is always something to battle against. Every homeowner should have a number of commercial cleaning products in the house which you have previously tested on a small area of your carpet. Knowing that your cleaning product is safe for your carpet will allow you to clean any spills or accident as soon as possible.

One particularly difficult battle in keeping carpets clean is the vomit of pets. If you do not immediately remove the vomit, its acidic nature can affect the colour of the fibres in your carpet, leaving it permanently discoloured. Some items which you should keep stocked up in the event of a pet vomiting are: cardboard, sponge, cloth, baking soda, club soda, paper towels, and you’re previously tested carpet cleaner.

The first step is to remove the vomit from the carpet using the cardboard. Tear the cardboard into two pieces, place each piece on opposite sides of the vomit, bring the halves together and scoop up as much of the vomit and liquid as possible. Throw away the used cardboard.

Next, wet the area with warm water using a sponge or a cloth. Pour baking soda onto the wet vomit stain and leave it until completely dry, then vacuum up the baking soda. Add another coat of baking soda and leave for around 30 minutes before vacuuming up again. Now pour club soda onto the affected area and blot with a paper towel. Once you have followed all of these steps, choose the carpet cleaner which you know is safe to use on your carpet, and follow the instructions.

Once you have thoroughly cleaned the area, you should have prevented any staining from the vomit. If there is still staining, repeat the process again. If there is still a stain, you should consider contacting a professional carpet cleaning company who can help you get your carpet back to full health.

Use a professional cleaning company to clean your curtains

Regular curtain cleaning should happen in every home because we spend hours and hours cleaning every other aspect of our homes to maintain a desirable living environment.  However, we often purchase new curtains rather than cleaning our old ones. Curtains are extremely overlooked as we often forget how important they are: they provide us with privacy, protect us from harmful UV rays, and keep us warm.  So, how can you protect your curtains for longer?

If you often have open windows, this will allow the dirt from outside to ruin your curtains more than if they were closed. However, dust and dirt can still come through cracks in the windows or the seals but this will only be minor.

The most common way for people to clean curtains in a domestic setting is to wash them on a delicate cycle in the washing machine. Although this is effective and practical, doing this too often can damage the fabric of the curtain.  It is a good idea to vacuum your curtains once a week whilst you are vacuuming the rest of your house – but make sure it’s on a low setting.

If you are able to purchase or hire a portable steam cleaner, this is also an option. Be sure to check the label of your curtains first to ensure that it is acceptable to use a steam cleaner on the fabric.

The best option when cleaning curtains is to use a professional curtain cleaning company.  This will save you time and effort.  Breeze Carpet Cleaners are also experts in other areas of cleaning and will be able to offer you very reasonable cleaning rates in London and the surrounding counties.

A few tips for cleaning your curtains and blinds

Curtain cleaning is one of the worst household chores, and it is something that very few people actually do on a regular basis, but it’s not that bad. Here are a few tips to make things easier when cleaning different curtains.

For standard curtains the best option is to just take them down and put them in the washing machine on a delicate wash cycle. Most types of curtain and curtain fabrics will wash well on a delicate cycle, but drapes are a completely different story. If you have drapes, it is strongly recommended that you seek advice from a professional curtain cleaning company or hire a commercial cleaner to do the job for you. It is important that you clean your windows whilst your curtains are being washed; otherwise, it kind of defeats the purpose.

If someone smokes inside your house, it is advised that you wash and clean your curtains at least 4 times a year. The nicotine in cigarettes can have a negative impact on the curtain fabric and can leave them smelling of smoke even after a wash. To try and combat this, use a gentle fabric softener in your wash.

If you have curtains hanging in your kitchen window, they are bound to hang right above the sink, and are subject to many water stains. For bad stains, soak the curtains in a fabric cleaning treatment, and then wash in the machine.

Blinds are particularly difficult to clean, especially venetian blinds. There is a product designed to clean venetians but this only removes some of the dust. If you want clean blinds, you’re going to have to take them down. Fill a bathtub with hot water and then soak the blinds. Once clean, try and hang them over your shower rail if possible, as this will avoid twisting your blinds.

Do you know how to clean your carpet?

It is extremely rare that a homeowner would not have purchased carpets for at least one of the rooms in their house. Given this, you might presume that homeowners know how to keep their carpets looking healthy and in great condition, but more often than not, this is not the case. Some people are unaware of the serious health conditions caused by dirty and soiled carpets. Your carpet could be home to a number of germs and allergens even if it looks clean – vacuuming does not remove health hazards, only dirt on the surface.

Your first task should be to determine the type of carpet you have as each material must be cleaned with a different method. Common materials for carpets are synthetic, wool, silk, and cotton. There are many different carpet cleaning products available in supermarkets but do you know which ones are effective for your carpets? If it has been a long time since you cleaned your carpets, you will need a product which is able to clean deep down into the carpet pile.

If your carpet is made from wool, the most common and effective method of cleaning is through hot water extraction, or steam cleaning. This method is preferred by industry experts because of its ability to remove dirt and debris, and kill off bacteria and germs living in the carpet. The heat is able to disinfect the carpet, and the steam cleaning machine extracts the water from the carpet, drawing the dirt with it. This method of carpet cleaning is also often chosen due to its extremely quick drying times. It is not only a hassle to put up with wet carpets after cleaning, but humidity can also cause the carpet to rot – and could defeat the object of having your carpets cleaned in the first place!

Breeze Carpet Cleaners are able to offer steam cleaning for carpets as recommended by carpet manufacturers.  Contact us today for a no obligation quote.

Things to consider when choosing a carpet

Do you know how to choose a new carpet? Purchasing a new carpet is a major investment and you have every right to expect longevity and comfort from a carpet. There are thousands of products currently on the market with many people uncertain of what is recommended and how much you should expect to spend on a quality carpet. Consider the following before you select your carpet:

• Co-ordination: does you carpet have to match any existing colours, designs or styles in your home? It is also important to consider your future decorating plans as you don’t want to have to change your carpet every time you redecorate a room.

• Shape of room: if you are choosing a patterned carpet, consider the shape of your room and whether you have any odd alcoves or walls where the pattern might join together oddly.

• Type of carpet: woven, tufted, wool or synthetic fibre, long, short or looped pile? There are many things to consider depending on whether you have pets, children, the texture and appearance you are looking for.

• Longevity: how long do you need your carpet to last? You might want a carpet to last 10-20 years, or maybe you’re a landlord who will be replacing the carpet between tenants so only require a couple of years of wear.

• Traffic: will the carpet be going into a room with heavy traffic, such as stairs and hallway, or an area with light wear such as a spare bedroom? If you have children and pets, these will also affect how much wear your carpet gets and how long it will last.

• Price: if we’re honest, price does matter when it comes to carpets.  If you want a carpet that will last for years to come in an area of heavy traffic, you will have to spend more money. You can of course purchase a less expensive carpet, which looks goods but it is likely to be less comfortable and require replacing more frequently.
